Almondbank WWTW

Client

Caledonian Water Alliance & Scottish Water

Duration

2 Weeks

Project Overview

A&L MEICA were engaged on the Almondbank WWTW project on behalf of Caledonia Water Alliance & Scottish Water. The project involved the relocation of the incoming site power supply, including the cable head and metering, as well as the back feed supply to existing services; ensuring operation and site outputs are maintained. Initially, the incoming supply cable was found insufficient to meet the customer’s power demand. This issue was clarified with the network distributor and the client design team, leading to a redefined scope of works. The project included the installation of a 25mm 5 core SWA cable to service the existing plant building.

Works Detail

Key Achievements

  • Successful installation of SSE containment and cabling.

Challenges Faced

  • Tight deadlines due to key milestone dates for power relocation and operational requirements.
  • Potential disruption to site processes and outputs.

Innovative Solutions

  • Installation of SSE compliant containment ducting throughout the site, ensuring the integrity of the installed cabling and allowing the network provider to complete the final tie-in of installing the cable joint and cable head limiting shutdown time and disruption to site processes.

Stakeholder Involvement

  • CWA: Proposed the initial design.
  • Scottish Water: Managed site works associated with the wider SW Bertha Park upgrade program.

Environmental and Safety Measures

  • All work was carried out in accordance with A&L’s Electrical Safety rules, NIC-EIC accreditation, and the construction phase plan.
