Remediate and redesign the DSR’s overflow pipework and associative bracketry, renew the scour valve and spindles to new stainless steel components.
Remove the risk of contamination within the tank by installing MDPE Electrofusion Pipework to act as a surface water drainage system for the roof of the cell.
Refurbish all pipework, valves and spindles within the inlet chamber of the cell.
To conduct a scour pipeline repair by installing a new stainless steel spool piece with VJ flange adaptors.
A&L replaced the existing overflow pipework with new stainless steel pipes. To create more space for the electrofusion pipework installation, they redesigned the overflow system using 90-degree bends. Additionally, A&L installed the new overflow pipework to match the height of the previous system and added new stainless steel support brackets.
A&L made several key improvements to the system. They replaced the damaged scour plug valve and upgraded the frame to stainless steel. They also installed a new machined brass drive bush, a stainless steel extension spindle, and supporting bracketry.
A&L removed the existing drainpipe that fed into the overflow. They then cored the roof to 140mm and installed 125mm MDPE pipe. The 125mm MDPE was installed using 90-degree bends and straight couplings. The electrofusion welded MDPE provides a better watertight seal, reducing the risk of rainwater contamination in the potable water tank.
Next, A&L cored a hole on the outside of the tank for the MDPE to be fed into a soakaway. They then conducted a pressure test of the pipework to ensure there were no leaks at the welded joints.
The key challenge with this installation was the water level in the tank. It was crucial that the pipework was installed above the tank’s highest water level to avoid any risk of contamination.
